On 09-25-2023 Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott and many Sheriffs throughout the State of Oklahoma traveled to the State Capitol to speak with legislators about additional funding for Sheriff Office’s. Oklahoma Senator Darrell Weaver held an interim study session on sheriff's deputy salaries.
The interim study is being conducted to determine the available funding options for the 77 Oklahoma Sheriffs Office’s. Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett, Nowata County Sheriff McClain, and Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott all spoke about the issues affecting law enforcement and issues within their specific counties.
County Sheriff’s throughout the state are interested in creating legislation that would set a minimum salary for Sheriff, Deputy, and Detention Officer. It would also include a clause to prevent any reduction in county funds in the Sheriffs current budget due to what they receive from the State of Oklahoma.
The Wagoner County Sheriff Office would like to thank the Oklahoma Sheriffs' Association, Representatives, Senators, Sheriff’s, and staff members that traveled from across the state to discuss these issues affecting every Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma.
